As we grow up we realize the party life is not for all of us — so if you happen to be one of these non-party people and are looking for a last-minute plan to spend your New Years Eve in a low key setting while still kicking off 2018 in style we have a few alternatives that won’t cost you an arm and a leg to pull off.

1 | New Years Eve Potluck

It’s like holding a dinner party (which is a serious adult thing to do) minus all the pesky cooking. You cook one thing, everyone else cooks one thing, and you all get together and eat. What could be better?

2 | Throw a board game nightMonopoloy

Friends, food, drinks and games — that’s about all you need for a good New Years Eve. Kick off 2018 by spending the evening with your best buds huddled around a board game having a good laugh. A great way to ring in the New Year but keep it low-key at the same time.

What you need

  • 2 to 10 people
  • An assortment of board games, BYOBG anyone?
  • Food & Drink, consider combining ideal 1 & 2 for a New Years Potluck/Board Game Night (can you say AH-MAZING)

3 | Build a time capsule

Admittedly, it is a little cheesy but sometimes you just want to spend the night by yourself reflecting on the last 365 days and looking towards the future. So why not do all that and build a super cool time capsule? Ok, maybe “super cool” is a stretch. Throw together a little present for yourself to open at the end of 2018 — bonus points if it’s some sort of goal-setting exercise!

What you need

  • A box or container
  • Stuff to put into said box or container (might we suggest a letter to your future self and some fun items from your 2017)
  • Somewhere to hide said box or container

4 | Head to the movies

Ok, so you’re not a partier but you still want to go out and do something, why not catch a flick? It won’t cost you an arm and a leg, but it will let you get out of the house. There are some pretty good movies playing in the theatre right now including:

5 | Hold a best of 2017 movie night2017 best of movie posters

Maybe you don’t want to go out but you do like the movie idea… why not hold a best of 2017 movie night? You can catch up on all the flicks you missed in the past year that you would have liked to see. You can even invite people over if you so choose. Heck, make it a pj party!

What you need

  • Popcorn & other snacks
  • Drinks (if you’re inviting people over we suggest making it BYOB)
  • Blankets, slippers and other necessary cuddly objects
  • An assortment of movies – check out IMDB’s best of 2017 list for ideas.
